Titanium is as strong as steel, and very light. It is twice as strong as aluminum and is 45% lighter than steel. When polished, it is particularly beautiful under light, almost looking as though it glows. Because it is not easily corroded by sea water, it is often used for various parts of sea-going vessels. Both titanium and titanium alloys are used in aerospace products where strength, low weight and resistance to high temperatures are important.

 Since titanium is inert and does not react within the human body, it is used to create artificial hips, pins for setting bones and for other biological implants. The high cost of titanium has limited its use to specialized products. Originally discovered by Reverend William Gregor in 1791, it is now being used for products which would have been unimaginable to him!
